You may have read about my invisible illness (link), and if you have you would know that looking at me a person wouldn’t guess that I have an illness. On the interior though, life has not been kind to me, and many days I just don’t feel good. Healthy days when I was full of energy are distant memories to me, and sometimes taking a shower is enough to drain me for the day. With a lowered immune system to contend with, I have to be on guard daily from common colds, the flu, and other viral infections. My body has to maintain a healthy balance on all levels, and in today’s society it is an ever demanding job to seek wellness and wholeness on a daily basis. The human body was not made to process artificial ingredients, plus early humans were more active than we are today. There are a lot of things that we do in popular culture today which contribute to a state of un-wellness simply because humans were not built to thrive in the conditions that we have brought ourselves to. We really have to make it a point to watch what it is that we are exposing ourselves to every day, and stay on top of our health situations.
Regardless of my health my responsibilities are still there, and my children need me to be strong.
Knowing what I know now about my illness, I realize that it’s not just the environment and what I am exposed to that is making me sick. It’s the way that my body reacts to the environmental exposures. My body happens to react in a particular way that sets off a domino effect of un-wellness to different areas of my body. My body reacts this way because of my genetic makeup, which I inherited from my parents. This tells me that this same domino effect can happen in my children as well! When I realized this I knew that I had to lay a secure foundation for my children and show them how to live their life to the fullest.
This put me on a path to finding a way to wellness and it brought me to the idea of wholeness.
You can read more about that here. I’ve taken a completely holistic approach to maintaining wellness over the past few years and it has made the difference in my health and happiness! I am proud to say that I haven’t had a bought with pneumonia for at least a year now, and there have been more and more “good days” to speak of lately! I have been able to stay on top of my household responsibilities, keep up with working from home online full time, and I have even been able to get out of the house and attend a few family gatherings. My biggest enemies are stress and lack of sleep, so I really have to keep on top of my bedtime and how I handle the problems in my life. The most stressful times of my life have occurred over the past few years so much so that I might have to write a book about it! *LOL* When times get tough and the stress is starting to weigh heavy on me, I will start to notice flare ups of different symptoms that tell me my illness is starting to get the better of me.
With my children depending on me, my career in full swing and a sense of control over my life, giving up is not an option.
I have had to find many ways to maintain my state of wellness and one of the activities that has helped me the most has been blogging about topics that I am passionate about or issues that I just have to get out. I have a few different blogs on a few different topics, and each time that I post on one of them it is like a mini therapy session. First off it is a big release to put feelings and thoughts into words. You have the power to write what you want, delete what you want, edit what you already said or add more to it later on. Life doesn’t always give you that! Writing about ideas from a new perspective of being a narrator or author helps you to process whatever it is you are writing about, and gives a sense of having done something productive about the situation. Sometimes people will make comments and it gives me a feeling that someone is listening, someone cares. Plus, researching information for the topics I write about helps me to learn more about them. I also know that others have learned from my posts and hopefully I can help others out there who might need to know what I can tell.
Blogging for wellness is a good idea if you have some things you would like to get off of your chest, if you feel like you have ideas and information to contribute to the world, or if you want to get feedback on things you might be going through.
You don’t have to post to your blog every day to benefit from it. Posting every now and then is perfectly fine, just blog as needed! *LOL* The most important thing to remember when blogging for wellness is that you are doing so to create productive emotions and not to harbor unproductive ones. Keep your posts focused on working through your topic, and don’t get bogged down in talking about your problems or they won’t find a resolution. One of the best side effects of blogging for wellness is a sense of closure, and being able to move on with your life regardless of the situations you face. Reading other peoples blogs is a good form of therapy also, but that’s a whole ‘nother blog post! For now, give your own blog a try, and post your way to wellness as much as possible!
Thank you for reading this blog, and I hope that you enjoyed reading about Blogging for Wellness.
